The Charities

The purpose of the challenge is simple: to raise as much money as possible for the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund and the Great North Air Ambulance and to remember David in style. The charities have been chosen at the request of David’s parents, John and Val, and are both close to the hearts of member of the RAF and those that live in the North East of England.

The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund was founded by Lord Trenchard in 1919, a year after the RAF was formed. The fund provides direct welfare assistance to those of the extended Royal Air Force family that are in need or distress, and many families of those killed in service benefit from the charity’s work. More details can be found at: www.rafbf.org

The Great North Air Ambulance provides emergency medical cover for the North of England, North Yorkshire and Cumbria (an area covering 5500 square miles and 3.5 million people). Time and time again, the Great North Air Ambulance has proven the value of having an established Air Ambulance in this region, and it was a team from the GNAA that attended the stricken helicopter in August last year. More details regarding The Great North Air Ambulance can be found at: www.greatnorthairambulance.co.uk

These charities deliver essential services to those in need and are ideal recipients of the funds we raise during the challenge. David would have greatly approved of the efforts to support these worthy causes.
